All eyes now on SRK as Don
The buzz for Shah Rukh Khan’s next venture has already begun. Here are some great stills from Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming remake of the 1978 classic starring Amitabh Bachchan, Don. The music from the original Don will be recreated in the new film, and the current teasers on air already give us a sneak peek, featuring a remixed, club-ish version of the classic theme tune — at the end of the promo. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are doing the revamped soundtrack, and among the hits they’re remaking are songs like Yeh mera dil and Main hoon Don. The highlight has to be Khaike paan Banaras waala, and SRK has apparently even sung snatches of the new version. Farhan’s Don is set to be a futuristic action/thriller, with a very stylised look and feel. Amitabh Bachchan was 36 when Don was made in 1978, his dual role of Vijay and The Don are still remembered as one of his coolest portrayals. Khan, 40, has acknowledged being massively influenced by the cult film —and even hinted in recent television portrayals that his tribute includes unforgettable dialogue like ‘Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahin, namumkin hai.’

Girls line up to shower Sanjay with kiss marks
Sanjay Dutt has never had it so good. A long line of girls were waiting to kiss him, and the hero was only too willing to cooperate. For those wondering how this came about, director Raju Hirani explains, “There’s a song in Lage Raho Munnabhai that goes, Apun ko mil gayi, arre ek kissing car, back seat pe jee bhar ke kiya pyaar. While shooting for this song, the makeup artist had to create realistic looking lipstick-kiss marks all over Sanju’s face.” “The makeup artist tried every possible technique, but it did not look convincing enough,” says the director. Finally, Sanju jokingly told Raju, “There are so many girls in the dancing crew, why don’t we ask them to help us out here.” Raju asked his assistants to put forward this request to the girls and they were all very excited and came out with fresh lipstick to kiss Sanjay Dutt. So what was Sanju baba’s reaction? “Sanjay Dutt was shocked,” laughed Hirani. “There was a mad rush of girls with fresh lipstick wanting to kiss him. Sanju stood there, as the girls walked up to him one by one and left a kiss mark on his face. Once they were through, he was all geared up for a great song shoot, with a blush and a naughty smile. The kiss marks looked fabulous and the song has turned out really well,” the director recounts.

Kasauli rejuvenates Rahul
Kasauli, a small town at the foothills of Himachal Pradesh, holds a special place in actor Rahul Bose’s heart. “My father lives in Kasauli,” informs Rahul with a smile, continuing, “I was born and brought up there. Also, my school was in Kasauli and I spent much of my growing years there, till I moved to Mumbai to pursue my career in theatre and acting.” Kasauli makes the Jhankaar Beats actor go back in time. “I make it a point to go to Kasauli every year. It keeps me in touch with my roots. My father is like my friend and and it is during these trips to Kasauli I make every year that we have our heart to heart chats. It is here that I do all the things that I would never get to do in a city like Mumbai. I explore, trek the mountains, visit those places where I played in my childhood with friends. I also make it a point to go to my school. All of this really rejuvenates me. I have been in this place since childhood. However, every time I come here, I discover something new. The weather here is lovely throughout the year,” says Rahul about his homeland. The actor adds, “I think that not only for me, but for every individual, that place is special where he has spent his growing years.” Rahul’s house is situated in one of the most beautiful locations there. “It just transports you into another world altogether. There’s so much of greenery there. The snow-capped tall mountains, the apple orchards — I choose to live here a life of seclusion once I retire,” he laughs. Talking about seclusion, is he happy being single? Rahul replies that at this phase of life, he is certainly not missing out on a relationship. “I am serious when I say I am happy being single. I am not missing having a relationship at all. I am happy sharing a bond with my father and my other family members. I love playing with my niece. These people add to my joy so much that it never once occurs to me that I don’t have a steady partner.”

Paltrow learns to surf during holiday
Gwyneth Paltrow has been learning to surf during a British beach holiday. The California-born actress was holidaying in the English coastal resort of Cornwall, home to the parents of her husband, Chris Martin. Gwyneth donned a wet suit and braved the chilly waters for an hour-long surf lesson on a chunky beginner’s surf board. One onlooker said, “By the end of the lesson she was able to ride a wave standing upright, but only for a few seconds.” Gwyneth’s figure looked great in the tight wetsuit, despite her recent complaints that having her second child, Moses, four months ago had left her out of shape. The Oscar-winning actress’ husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, is also a keen surfer. The couple, who have homes in London and New York, are the latest in a string of celebrities to holiday in Cornwall. Hugh Grant and Jemima Khan enjoyed a break there last month, and British Princes William and Harry are often spotted in the town of Rock. Kate Winslet and director husband Sam Mendes also have a holiday home there.

Danish media slams Madonna
The Danish media have slammed US pop diva Madonna for giving an open-air concert that was nothing more than a “music video”, saying it was a “scandal” that many of the 85,000 spectators could not see their idol. “It was almost a relief when Madonna tripped in her last song and dropped the microphone on the enormous stage. It was in fact the only moment during her show in Horsens that you could tell it was a real live person on stage, and not just an open-air music video,” newspaper Berlingske Tidende wrote recently. Tabloid Ekstra Bladet was even harsher in its criticism, qualifying the performance, Madonna’s first ever in Denmark, as a “scandal”.
